ODYSSEY IN THE LAND OF SHADOWS

The Odyssey play explores how people travel from states of grief into healing when faced with mortality.
I became interested in the spaces in-between life and the death as a rich ground for theater. The middle ground of memory, loss, the sub-conscious and the spirit world can be wonderfully expressed through the media of shadows. In addition to shadow, an eclectic group of body and hand puppets join the stage with live actors. Narrators who play in and out of roles help weave the connective thread throughout the piece.

Puppets, poetry and movement are woven together in the telling. In this piece I hope to bring the audience on a journey questioning our understandings of life and death. I am interested in taking a closer look at the nuances of a subject that is both universal and yet often avoided.
