STORIES OF CHILDHOOD
This storytelling and shadow puppet workshop honors the wisdom and experiences of people 60 and older. Stories told by seniors were used in creative exchange with children ages seven to twelve. First, in a workshop developing storytelling skills, real life stories were chosen and developed by seniors. Once the stories were crafted and recorded children were brought in to learn about shadow puppets and create a visual re-telling which was shared with the public along with the stories in an informal community event.

STORIES OF HOME

This storytelling and paintings workshop honors the wisdom and experiences of people 60 and older. Stories told by seniors were used in creative exchange with local painters. First, in a workshop developing storytelling skills, real life stories were chosen and developed by seniors. Once the stories were crafted and recorded painters choose stories to depict visually. An exhibit of works was displayed at the World and Eye gallery during an art walk while spectators listened to the stories.

Originally developed in partnership with Helen Reynolds, these programs received a grant from the Broward Cultural Division. Examples of the two previous community events can be seen here by clicking on the picture above.
